Don't Count Out A 2X Champ

Mike Doushgounian started the new 6.90 Slammers season off with a bit of tough luck when he lost in the first round at the first race. That gave an opportunity for servral other teams teams to put a points lead on him heading into the second event. But the 2X Champ bounced right back at the NHRA National Open in Sacramento when he was the runner up to event winner Ralph Willis. The beautiful orange Tim Mcamis built Nova laid down a series of back breaking runs including a 6.899 in the final. With an all new Miner Brothers Racing Hemi under the hood the Chevy II has more than enough grunt to get down the 1320 in 6 seconds. The third race of the season just three weeks away we know that Mike and Team Vader will do what ever it takes to get back in the points lead and back in the winner's circle.
Red Star Paint and Body Shop Gets R/U
Karl and Kurt Wisenhunt were back in action at the 2nd race of the season with their 604ci Ford powered Fairlane. With new sponsor Red Star Paint and Body Shop on board they showed the class just what a Ford could do. Karl did some great driving and was able to make it through the tough field of 7.60 Slammers. He got a big hand when Sam Blaylock went -.001 red in round one to Karl's late .104 light. From there, they were able to position themselves into the final round against Rob Patten but would have to settle for the runner up spot at their first Slammers race of 2012. Congratulations to the two brothers from Sacramento and good luck at the next event.
Just A Little Too Much!
At the season opening Pro Mod Slammers event Bret Williamson in his "Murdered Out" Studebaker loaded the car up with monster horsepower in search of resetting the track record. The Williamson & Gore Motorsports entry is well known and currently holds the track record at Sacramento Raceway Park at 5.928. Bret was geared up to drop a 5.8o something on the score board using the same tuneup that he puts in his NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car but as fate would have it the satin black door slammer would over power the track surface. You can bet he will be back in full force at our next event to conquer the raceway. We are proud to have record setting cars like this in the Scrappers Racing Slammers Series and look forward to even more teams at our next event.
1st Five Second Slammer

When it comes to setting class records the Renteria Brothers went out and wrote the book in the new Pro Mod Slammers series. We knew there would be some good runs at this event but no one knew that Sean Renteria would lay down a back breaking 5.96 @ 231mph to take the #1 qualifying spot at the NHRA National Open. Sean also earned $100 from West Coast Designz for that #1 spot. This was the first time in more than two years that a pro mod has raced in Sacramento and now they are back! That run was the fastest pass of the event and Sean is the first 5 second Pro Mod Slammer. Not only did he lay down a pass they also worked hard organizing the series and getting guys like event winner Marc Meadors and runner up Monty Berney to show up! Congratulations to the Renteria Brothers, their entire family and crew.
"PureHell2"

Driver Marc Meadors and his Good Guys Racing team gave the new Pro Mod Slammers Series "Pure Hell 2" at last weekend's season opener at Sacramento Raceway Park. Meadors, the president of Goodguys Rod and Custom brought his 1969 blown Camaro out to win and that's just what he did. Qualifying in the #4 spot Meadors earned his way to the finals on a 6.13 242mph pass when Chuck Moore couldn't get his beautiful 63' Corvette in gear. Crew chief Jason Bunker, Billy Ferreira, Cole Rouchenet and Danny Miller worked hard over the weekend to give Marc what he needed to get past Monty Berney's 55' Chevy in the final round as he ran a 6.10 @ 248mph to a peddling 6.38 @ 220. With JesseAnn, BreAnn, Grant and Grace supporting him we know they will have a great 2012. We want to give Marc a special thanks for working with the teams throughout the weekend, getting things organized and making the event a huge success. It's Slammers like these that make this association so great. For more information about this team click on www.goodguysracing.com

A Long Time Coming

Last weekend's 6.90 Slammers win was a very special occassion for Darryl Jensen's Lights Out Racing Team. After losing former driver John Geyer to cancer Darryl put Ralph Willis in the seat to take over the driving duties. The team came out and supported the association from the start but couldn't get the car to run the number. At the 2011 Fox Hunt they were unable to make the call in the finals handing Mike Doushgounian the win and another championship. This year they came back determined and ready to go. They rolled into the first round qualified #4 and worked their way to the finals. Ralph got past Ken Christiansen Jr.'s 81' Corvette, Aaron Wardell in round two and then put down points leader Tony Jurado in semi-finals on a career best run of a 6.91 at 187mph. This would now set the tone for the final that never happened in 2011 between Mike Doushgounian and Ralph Willis. Both of them taunted eachother with half track burnouts and with the heavy smell of raw fuel in the air, their clocks began to count. With both crews holding thier breaths it was the 53' Jeffers body Corvette getting the light when the orange Nova went too quick, 6.899 to a slowing 7.27 at 150 for Willis. The 65 year old can still get the job done on the tree when he went .015 and took home the $100 from Good Vibrations Motorsports for the best reaction time during eliminations. The $2000 check, Lucas Oil Slick Mist and a case of Lucas Oil also went home with the team from Salinas.
Congratulations to the crew, Darryl and Rex Hutchison you earned it!
Putting Down Some Pain
Rob Patten definately put down the pain on the rest of the field when he took home the win in 7.60 Slammers at the NHRA National Open last weekend. Patten placed himself in the #1 qualifing spot after three sessions and earning a bye run in the first round. Patten then quickly took care of Mark Lawson when he left a little early with his flamed out Firebird. In the finals it would be Karl Whisenhunt in a classic Ford vs. Chevy matchup where Patten cut a .016 light and ran a 7.63 at 161 over Karl's 7.70 at 173. Rob has also took over the points lead, took the $1000 purse, took the #1 qualifier $100 from West Coast Designz and took the $100 reaction time bonus from Good Vibrations Motorsports. Now that's some pain!
